The Gauntlet

This month (August) is going to be focused on editing the final manuscript of Wretched and getting things ready to submit to an agent. I bought a copy of the 2007 Children’s Writer’s & Illustrator’s Market and went through it the other night looking for agents. I’m going to start submitting to 8 that I think looked promising. Also this month, I’m going to try and perfect the art of the query letter and see how many agents are interested enough to ask to see the manuscript. I’m still waiting for feedback from one reader (Heidi) about the end of the book, and a copy-editor friend from Deep Magic (Mike) is going through it as well.

This last month heard about a good YA novel called Princess Academy by Shannon Hale. It won the Newbury award in ’05, I believe, and it’s a great novel. It gives me hope that I’ll find a good publisher for Wretched of Muirwood

By this time next month, I’ll be playing the waiting game to see if there is any interest out there. I’m excited and a little nervous. Oh, and one more item. I have a colleague at Intel in Winnersh Triangle, England (Jim) – and he’s getting me a copy of a tree map from Glastonbury Abbey. I’m thrilled to get it finally!
