Teaching at 2016 Storymakers Conference

I’ve been invited to teach two classes at the 2016 LDStorymakers Conference being held in Provo, UT the first weekend of May. I’ve always heard good things about it. Whether or not you are LDS, you can register and attend the conference. Since it’s primarily for writers trying to improve the craft and understand the publishing industry, I came up with several pitches and two were accepted. The classes I’ll be teaching will be on Saturday, May 7, 2016. And by the way? Brandon Sanderson will be speaking during lunch.

Here are the descriptions of the two classes:

Class#1: Your First Million Words

It’s common to look at the overnight success stories of rare individuals who make it big on their first novel as the goal. But Jeff discovered on his journey that he had to write and toss his first million words before he’d practiced the craft enough to be successful at it. Come to this class for time management, writing advice from an author who worked fulltime at a high tech company, served as a bishop, and squeezed in writing one night a week for two hours…and is now well past his second million words. This class is about finding the will and the time to pursue the lonely road walked by writers.

Class#2: Indie Track: Understanding Amazon

How well do you understand the indie publishing market? Do you know the difference between Kindle Direct and Kindle Unlimited and how they pay royalties? Have you heard you can be paid to write stories set in another author’s world? What’s it like to work with one of the Amazon Publishing imprints (Montlake Romance, 47North, Thomas & Mercer)? Come learn about different resources Amazon has enabled to help indie writers get noticed in a crowded publishing market that is only getting more crowded.

There are many other great classes being offered as well, and you can find the offerings here:

Registration began on December 9.

Other news – I’ve seen the final MUIRWOOD:THE LOST ABBEY graphic novel! The print version will include extra pages at the end showing some original design sketches and the transformation from concept to final art. It’s a great collectible and will be available through Amazon. You can pre-order it here in the US or here in the UK.

(pub date: January 27, 2016)

Thank you for making my dreams become real. Thanks for the e-mails, the posts to my blog, the tweets, and Facebook messages and even the notes and cards. You are amazing!

I want to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year! #ASaviorIsBorn
